incense
In the third year of the Bunroku era (1594), the long-established incense company, Kungyokudo Co., Ltd., opened its doors as an apothecary in front of Nishi Honganji Temple, Kyoto, where it still stands today. The founder, Riemon Ōno, fascinated by fragrant wood from a young age, devoted himself to the art of incense blending and shared his aromatic creations to the people of Kyoto and beyond. With a history of over 420 years, Kungyokudo is Japan's oldest incense supplier, creating the scents of Japanese temples, ceremonies and everyday life throughout each generation. Heritage remains at the core of Kungyokudo, and with our many years of natural fragrance blending experience, we will continue to offer highly crafted fragrances that combine the essence of modern life while preserving our prestige of being the oldest incense makers in Japan.
