lacquerware

Lacquerware is one of Japan's representative traditional crafts. Lacquering history dates back to the Jomon period (before 300 BC).

Lacquering was adopted into the Japanese daily lifestyle, and has been used as a natural coating material, protection against water and corrosion, sometimes to repair broken pottery (kintsugi - golden joinery).
